Since our German vacation didn't happen this past holiday season I felt in need of something from home... So I made some traditional Gluehwein! It put me in the spirit of Christmas and with the cold and snow here in Colorado I could imagine myself on the Christmas markets in Germany, hands warmed from the Gluehwein and in wonderful company of friends. I missed that this last Christmas... But here is to tradition!

It’s easy to make! You will need:

  1. one bottle of red wine

  2. two oranges

  3. three cinnamon sticks

  4. agave syrup or honey

  5. five star anise

  6. five cloves

  7. a little bit of cardamom

    Heat up the wine to a simmer (don’t boil it!)

    Add the spices and honey as well as cut up oranges

    Cook it all down for 3 hours (add spices as needed, don’t let it come to a boil)

    ENJOY really hot, but don’t drink all at once!
