PLAYING IS NOT JUST FUN - IT’S HEALTHY
Release the inner kid and play! I love when interior design trends aim to address space concepts that are not just out there but also actually functional. So here is to the swing trend. We have seen swings in homes before, but usually they are in dedicated spaces and it's just one or a swinging bench on a porch. But what about integrating swings into daily life and incorporating them into out kitchens?
Check out these examples of swings as island seating. How wonderful, since now you get to wiggle around and go back and forth without anyone saying: don't rock your chair, sit still! Movement is encouraged and how we have learned from studies - it's good for you! Especially swinging motions have a soothing and calming effect, which works great for kids and adults alike!
Swings can be made more comfortable and deviate from the traditional one horizontal board shape, with comfy backs and upholstered seats. Think about it, why not? Because you don't see it everywhere? Even more reason to do and to try it.
As for the aesthetics, think about cleaning under the chairs by the island... yes you move them every time to sweep up the crumbs... no need with hanging chairs! There are even systems that let you pull your swings up and out of the way if need be... The 'hanging' concept also introduces a different and exciting vibe into your home and changes the dynamics of how we perceive space. The only thing usually dangling from the ceiling are light fixtures, so creating a richer experience through utilizing the ceiling in structural ways can be very exciting alter your design for the better.
